In the Hard2Guard Player Development Newsletter, I wrote about martial arts and basketball training several times during Volume 2. Two of the best girls that I train are former martial artists, and I believe the martial arts give them an advantage in strength and movement. Also, especially for girls, studies have shown that martial artists develop their hamstrings, which is one key for preventing ACL injuries.
In this interview with Jamaal Wilkes sent to me by a subscriber, he credits his martial arts training for his success:
I was a martial arts enthusiast and those skills enabled me to excel at positioning, footwork, shifting my weight, understanding how to use the most of my strengths to downplay my weaknesses. I played against guys that outweighed me by 100 pounds. And they could not match my quickness, or smoothness as you say.
