The January 26, 2009 Sports Illustrated features a Chris Mannix article about the Memphis Grizzlies’ O.J. Mayo. Last summer, I wrote that I would take O.J. Mayo as the #1 pick in the NBA Draft because he showed he mental qualities that I associate with great players, and drafting first, I think you have to pick the player with the best opportunity to become a superstar.
The SI article confirms Mayo’s mental maturity:
Mayo also isn’t afraid to ask questions. “A lot of rookies don’t want to let on how little they know,” says Memphis coach Marc Ivaroni. “He doesn’t have that fear.”
